Hello:

I bought my d8b used off ebay....didnt come with any authorization codes or anything. So, how do i locate my ESN for my console?

Currently, my system boots up into OS v3. But, im only using the Keyboard, got to go find a PS/2 mouse. Can i navigate to this info from the console???

Thanks

Using CRTL and the 1 gets you part way there but I couldn't navigate to the License tab to open that to see the ESN. If you are trying to get to the ESN to upgrade to V5, you can forget it for now. Mackie has decided to not fix the computer that generates unlock codes at this time as I am sure it is not a money maker any longer with the number of users put there that have not already upgraded. I am not positive on the state of unlocking F/X. that mayb still be a doable deal but I can't remember. Look around on the forum here and you will find the answers you seek.

Probably the best thing to do is go and find a PS72 mouse.
In case you´re after upgrading to V5.1, as crash mentioned, there is a way.
Look at:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Mackie-d8b-Brain-Card-w-OS5-1-and-All-UFX-Un-Lock-Codes-Very-Rare-These-Days-/161314639484?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item258f1a0e7c
They will sell you a brainboard with V5.1 and all UFX Un-Lock Codes for US $429,99.

Yeah, I saw those auctions already and have spoke to eric about it. Thanks

But, i gotta ask, from a functional standpoint....what are the differences are there really from v3 to v5.1???? I mean, for me i just want to use the d8b as a mixer and do all of my mixing in the box using outboard/plugins....so im not too concerned with the mackie plugins...so by buying a new brain im only getting the 5.1OS...is it worth it?

Be careful with Mr Russ here... I could make a whole lot of trouble for Eric, but I'm a nice guy so I won't. But I will add, I purchased codes from him (the ones that don't work!) in a transaction, and guess where he gets his unlock codes from. You guessed it, his 'insider' @ Mackie. If that board and codes aren't tested and known good to run in an executing environment (console & cpu), you're gonna get codes like I did that don't work. He 'assured' me when I purchased them they work, even tho I wasn't getting the board - just the codes (at his recommendation). Plugin codes work like a champ in V3 or V5.1. Won't reply to emails or answer his damn phone - for months...

Caveat Emptor, Folks...

Whats up Dok -

Yeah, see thats what i was afraid of also, i saw you say something like that in a thread elsewhere. Thats why im really like, why bother...hell, Im waiting on Munks Probox or Gerard's d8bridge v2 anyway. So i guess i can stick with v3 for now...its not killing me to do so...

Look, no point in making a big deal out of it but V5 is considerably superior. Eq is better, Comps are better (or more precisely, better articulated) extra routing functions that are really useful. If the hack becomes available, I wouldn't hesitate. I do feel for those who don't have it and Mackie are a bunch of ratbags for not supporting something that they made us sign for at the outset. There's no emoticon here that allows me to illustrate how I feel about those ........ Hang on and there could be a solution. Greg was a good man and perhaps his legacy will live on in perpetuity.

I don´t want to contradict anyone´s experiences with Eric Russ, I just want to add, that I had the pleasure of making some good business with him.
So something must have changed, for the bad ...

Purchasing things from him on eBay work out just fine, as I've stated so myself - of course it's a one way straight forward transaction (you're paying HIM). However, trying to work a deal with him (offline) where there's $$$ and other pieces of equipment that are involved is another story... I wheel n deal in musical gear too, and until he responds and clears up a particular business transaction w/ me - which he hasn't in some time, he's a fucking Snake IMHO... Plain n Simple. Piss poor business principles and no integrity, I choose not to do business with him at this point, mmKay... ;)

Where do you think he comes up with the various pieces of gear he sells?

Just be careful, that's ALL I was stating as a courtesy to anyone looking in with interest... {SMFH}
