POPS

Dear All,

I'm experiencing a pop every now and then heard through the monitor speakers. I noticed that this is happening when the system is idle. I'm clocked thru an APOGEE clock card via MOTU 2408 MK2. I have another slave d8b but this happens when both the slave is switched on or off. Never had this issue when i was clocked thru ADAT and had the stock clock card installed. This all started when i start using the APOGEE clock card. :?:

how should i clock for best clocking performance? Should i use an external clock gear?

Any help and ideas?

Is the d8b the master clock or the slave?

my d8b is the MASTER (master out from apogee to the wordclock in of the motu2408 then another word clock in into a second motu then to the slave d8b.
I'm using T-junctions to clock from one unit to the next and no daisy chain system.

Even if the slave d8b is switched off i get pops

There is something funny between the master d8b and the two motu's units

I'd try this before considering an external master clock for all involved.

Hi FrankH
Thanks for the time. So you are proposing to go into the clock input of the 2408 and get out from its own Clock out?

Is the Apogee clock signal strong enough to feed the slave d8b and the motu instead of doing it in series?

You have the cables and T connector. Try it and see what happens.

A pop when everything's idle doesn't seem like a word clock issue to me. Pops and clicks only occur when sync can't be achieved.

Hi Peter,

I agree with you however if the system is idle and you try and change the clock source on the d8b or change the sampling rate ad hoc, you will experience a pop or click. Pops might happen also if there is something wrong in the chain and the d8b or the motu loses the sync for some reason whatsoever.

Thinking aloud...... :?:

So are you saying that you only hear the POPs when you change the sample rate and/or the word clock? Or do they happen at random times when you're not touching the console?
