Hi There,

My second D8B arrived this week and i would like to set the two beasts together through BNC word clock so:

1> D8B (A): stock word clock card, OPT8 x3, ALT: AIO8
2> D8B (B): Apogee word clock card, DIO8 v2 x3, ALT: AIO8
3> MOTU 2408 MK2 x 2 plugged to same computer/ Cubase

I would like to chain a BNC and no longer clock through ADAT. As you can see D8B (A) has no word clock BNC connections. Shall i swap an AIO8 or OPT8 with a DIO8 to gain a BNC port on D8B (A)?

Your professional advice on BNC connection of both mixers is greatly appreciated.

Any ideas from the experienced?

If I were going to do this, I would replace the stock Sync card with an Apogee Sync card and use a Master Clock unit (Big Ben, old Symetrix GenX 192...etc) and clock both D8B's and both 2408's from the master Clock.

I foresee clocking problems arising with that non-Apogee equipped D8B in the hookup you are proposing. Sorry, but this a "throw more money at it" solution...but that's what I'd do.

What is the best way to connect a word clock chain? Can i use cubase/ Motu 2408 as the master then pass the BNC thru the second MOTU 2408 then to the Apogee of the first d8b then to one of the DIO8 (BNC) on the second d8b?
Will it chain perfectly?

if the above does not work.....what about the ART Syncgen - word clock generator?

If i use the Apogee of the d8b as a master can i use the following config?

D8B (Apogee)-----MOTU 2408mk2----MOTU 2408 MK2----D8B(BNC on a DIO8 Card)

Will the 2nd D8B sync thru one of the DIO8 cards (BTW there are 3 DIO8 cards on the 2nd d8b)

Forget to tell you...how long do you recommend the BNC cables? The longer the worst i've read.

I don't know much about the DIO 8 cards other than the eprom you have is important. Check the database. If it were me, I'd grab another Apogee Clock card. They've come down a little in price.
