When I boot off Disc 1, the OS loader loads and looks like the CPU is processing the first floppy - floppy light flashes, I see a flashing asterisk in the right corner.
But after 1 min, the floppy light tuns off and I don't see any messages on the monitor?

A mistake I recently made may hopefully apply to your situation. Initially, I only copied 'd8b3x224 Install 1.exe' and 'd8b3x224 Install 2.exe' respectively to 2 floppy disks, and tried to boot from 'd8b3x224 Install 1.exe'. That obviously does not work and did the same as your above description.

Make sure you follow ALL instructions on this page to create the D8B OS installer on floppy disks:

Good luck!

I assume you have read this document: Conditioning Your Hard Drive.pd

Once the "conditioning" process is done you should be able to install the OS.

You may want to have a brand new set of floppies.

Since I just went through this here are some issues I ran into. Hope this helps you to NOT go bat shit crazy like I did.

Floppy drive. I got a USB floppy drive to format and download my old floppy's. I had the same issue of during boot-up the floppy light would come on but move on to normal boot up. I did not know about a problem with floppy drives that is very common. If your old drive and new USB drive are not both calibrated the same way they will not read each other correctly. I had to take out the D8B drive and install on my house computer. Format and install OS on new disks (NOS) and return it to the D8B. Now everything fell into place.

Krstudio

Can you elaborate a bit more on "I had to take out the D8B drive and install on my house computer. Format and install OS on new disks (NOS) and return it to the D8B. Now everything fell into place."

Are you saying you FDISK and FORMAT C: the drive in another computer and than placed it back in d8b and installed 5.1?

I think krstudio was referring to removing the d8b's floppy drive, installing it on his house computer (to create the os floppy disks on the house computer), then putting the floppy drive back in the d8b and installing the os with the newly created floppy disks.
Sounds like a VERY smart method to me!

BTW: Is the cable between the HOST and Consol Serial, Parallel or custom?

Yes, I needed to use the same drive in both computers. I tried three different drives and went crazy until my brother-in-law told me to use the same drive for the entire process. Worked first shot after that. BTW I REALLY like the CF drive instead of hard drive!
