D8B with 3 OPT.8 cards , what is the simplest connection?

It's a heck of a good looking desk but radically different to anything else I've ever seen , like something off the flight deck of the space shuttle with the hugh screens and minimal controls, how does it compare to the D8B?

In most ways, it is very much like the d8b but with more routing capabilities and the possibility of higher sample rates. Plus it can do a firewire card. It can also run VST plugins and has a lot of different DAW control. If you are familiar with the workings of the d8b, you could get around on this console with little effort. It really is sort of like a younger more up to date d8b in many ways.

I bought mine with a blown power supply for about 1K less than that one and I think mine may be in better physical shape appearance wise. In my opinion, that is too much money for a busted one, I have seen them for sale in working condition for that kind of coin.

That video is with Dan Moore, he was a product specialist at Mackie. I am not sure he is there any longer but he worked there when I was running the d8b line. I remember he made videos of the HUI as well back in the day among other products. Bob Tudor, who with Peter Watts, was behind the d8b, was also the guy behind the dXb. His company Sanewave created it and Mackie manufactured it. It is physically a little bit bigger than the footprint of the d8b, slightly wider and definitely deeper from armrest to card cage. I can pick up the d8b by myself but I am not sure I could with the dxb, with the extra weight and slightly wider stance.

The dXb has a Facebook group page and that is about the only place you can get any sort of "forum" type support as there is no dedicated forum anymore for the console.

Anyway, enough about the dXb, sorry to hi-jack your thread and I am glad you are up and running with the d8b. It was a console ahead of its' time in my opinion. I was a bit sad putting mine in the box after all of these years with it. It had its quirks but it never left me high and dry on a session.

Not at all, I've really enjoyed your input and info on all aspects of early Mackie desks including the dXb and great to hear your personal experience in using theses great pieces of wondrous kit.
