Meters freeze and no sound is produced

Postby AustinFa04 » Tue Sep 03, 2019 9:52 pm

Hi guys,

recently my D8B has started having an odd issue where after a few minutes the meters freeze and no more sound is coming out. There is still full communication and contorle from the board to the D8B computer, and everything continues to work and respond, just no audio from input devices, and frozen meters.

I have removed and cleaned and re-seated all my cards, checked all my connections, and troubleshot all peripherals, and now I am at a loss.

What did you do when you checked all connections.

I disconnected and reconnected everything, made sure they where completly connected. used air duster to clean and re-seat all cards ect...

Connections include 6 optical connections from my board to my converters, and two coax from my apogee clock to my breakout cable, and analogue input connections.

IPA is much better than an air duster which does very little to clean contacts.

well, all this started happening before I did all that so I doubt it has anything to do with it. not to mention when I pulled my cards they where spotless.

Ribbon connectors are one of the biggest problems, not all of the connectors are accessible to clean. When you're doing a re-seat, it's best to also clean the contacts with IPA, even if they look clean as they can tarnish, the other thing is, and I have had past experience with this, sometimes it's not the contacts that are the problem, it's the ribbon wires not making contact on the connector spikes.

If you have a circuit tester you can check continuity from connector to connector, it's time consuming but at least you know if everything is good. What I do is, when the connector is pulled off, slide your thumb nail between the ribbon and connector both sides to lift the ribbon off the spikes, put in a couple of drops of IPA and clamp back with a pliers, this has worked twice for me when just cleaning hasn't.

Check out the connectors going to the VU's.

Ill try all this, thanks...
but first, what is and where can I get a hold of IPA?... because I assume you're not talking about the beer?
2nd, I am assuming that means I am going to have to completely open up the console?

Isopropyl alchahol is on the net.

Yes you have to take the lid off.
