Midi card issue??

First time posting on the forum and having an issue with my d8b receiving midi from my hard disc recorder. Everything is working fine with the console except it isn't acknowledging midi time code, and therefore automation doesn't work. The time in the smpte display never changes from zero, no matter the time that is displayed on the recorder. However the console will send commands to the recorder. Arming tracks for "record" on the console always arms tracks on the recorder. Creating a locate point from the console, however, doesn't always translate to the recorder. I've checked midi cable connections, etc. and nothing is abnormal to the eye. Anyone else ever have a similar issue? Thanks for any help!
