Crackling, Distortion whatever its called........

Postby Carlo » Sat Sep 28, 2013 7:46 am

Dear All,

Few weeks ago i've recorded a song having 16 tracks of instruments. After few days i noticed that the stereo solo guitar has a crackling sound/ audible distortion (digital distortion). On Cubase 5 i changed and adjusted the insert plugins but the distortion was still audible. I re-recorded the track and the problem persisted.

I have switched OFF the d8b filters on the channel list as indicated in this forum, and eliminated the dynamics on the d8b and the problem persisted. When i solo the track on its own i hear no distortion but audible on the control room (either with headphones or on monitors). The main master channel is far beyond digital clip so its not the problem.

When i play the guitar on the same channel no distortion is heard...the problems is evident when mixing and during playback. When i mute the Solo guitar, the crackling disappears.

Can you please help? Is this related to hardware failure, i/o cards or OS on the d8b?

Regards

Carlo :?:

Hi There,

It seems that the cracking sound is coming intermittently during playback. Is it the Clock card? I'm using the stock clock card and i'm syncing through Motu 2408 Optical cable. This is the first time i'm hearing this. All was well few days ago.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried moving cards around to see if the problem moves?

Hi Crash,

It was a corrupted Cubase session most probably. By any chance is there a way to get a midi card(found in the CPU) for sale?

You might check with Eric Russ. He might be able to hook you up.

I've been trying to get hold of Eric meselfs for a coupla weeks now, got some bidness to settle (he owes me $$$) - No Joy...

He does travel some for another endeavor of his, SO I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt (at this point, for now)... just sayin'...
