Is No One Buying D8Bs Anymore?

Postby RegisWhite » Sat Mar 16, 2013 7:15 am

Hi to all;

I see some familiar names from the old Mackie-sponsored D8B Forum, which is nice. My question is basically inclusive in my title. I see some units on eBay, but all of them--and I mean all of them, as of the last time I looked--are "Buy It Now," or "...Or Best Offer" listings, and not a single one looked to have any bidding action.

I hate to say it, but I'm really looking to sell mine, since I've converted to Pro Tools, and there seems to be no action at all on this "version 2 of D8Bridge" software, which will, supposedly, make the D8B compatible for use as a Pro Tools controller. I figure I could use that money to invest toward the cost of an MCU and Extender, you know?

Everything on my unit works fine; I was using it with an HDR 24/96 until I got the Pro Tools set up. It has 2 MFX and 2 UFX cards installed, an Apogee clock card, three of the lightpipe I/O cards, and the standard AES/EBU card, also. The faders and meter bridge work, and I just did a good cleaning in the CPU.

There's a small dent on the front of the CPU that was there when I got it used a few years ago, which seems to be entirely cosmetic. The talkback button is a bit mooshed in--which seems to be remarkably common, which makes no sense to me; I mean, how excited could you possibly be to tell a band, "Uh, guys, the guitar was a little flat there; you need to retune, and we'll do another take..." that you would get that enthusiastic about stabbing away at the "talkback" button? But I digress...

I never used talkback, so I can't swear to its functioning one way or the other. I'm including a keyboard and mouse with it. I'm not really "setting a price" here, because I just want a sense of if anyone is even interested, at this point. If so, let me know, and we can talk, but I just want to get a feel for if there's any point in putting it out there.

I'm in Pennsylvania, U.S., willing to ship or arrange local pickup, and just... just trying to get a feel if there's any market left out there for a decent D8B. Thanks for reading; please ask any questions, and I hope to hear some feedback from the forum!

Good luck with this Regis, I am in a similar boat trying to sell some D8B parts but everyone is looking for bargains at the moment. I suspect that I may end up keeping mine and get it serviced.
