d8b DAW Feature Help

Postby lnegro » Fri Sep 21, 2018 1:55 am

Hello

I have successfully upgraded my 20 year old ....but still mint d8b....with OSV5.1 (thank you Anders), and enjoying its controller features....limited as they might be. Its the 300 Celeron, 256 memory, and converted to CF system drive.

I'm using the desk with Studio One 3.5 Pro in HUI mode, and of course it can only use 8 channels at a time. I would like to, along with many I'm sure use all 24 channels at the same time but alas after much research on the forum and elsewhere can't find the remedy to this. Studio one does recognize MCU ( I use a Faderport which also uses MCU ) but not sure if the d8b can be rigged to use MCU (it is Mackie after all ), and I understand this would be a better solution because MCU is newer than HUI. Studio One also recognizes MCU outboard boxes, but I would like to do it directly with the d8b, .......and I know I could go the Probox or d8bridge route but......$$$$$$

So here are some questions for the sage gurus here on the forum.

Can I put 2 more midi cards in the PSU, thereby giving me a path to the 3 banks?
Would a midi hub ( like MOTU midi express etc ) accomplish the same thing?
Could I use the serial port on the desk via midi translator ( Bhome? ) ....is there a program already out there?
Could I somehow expand the existing HUI capability to get all 3 banks at once?

There are other things that would be nice ( transport readout, meters e.g. ) but the 24 channel use is my top priority. Thank you all for chiming in

Larry

I honestly really don't know. Haven't played around with the hui.
I bought the probox, and really think it's a nice product, considering it turns the d8b into a mcu +2 xt's
Price-wise, I'd say it's a good bargain.

Thanks Anders.....If I had the spare 250 I'd buy it. I wish I could just get the program.....I can build the box myself.

well, I think the box runs an arduino, but there's also a different pcb in there, that I belive Munkustrap had custom made for him - that one might be a bit harder to copy, even if you had the software.
Unfortunately, as stated, I don't know any other cheaper solution.
My twin brother was messing around with programming something himself, but since neither he nor I are regular programmers, the job just got too complicated.

Thanks ....... the PCB is the ST STM32F4....I think its right off the shelf about $15, and then a few connectors and a box. I know the program is custom of course, and I think Ralph did a great job. I just don't have the coin right now and this was just an experiment for me.
